PUBLIC SECTOR PACKAGES

The suite of Public Sector packages available (Core or Core Package 0, and Packages One, Two and Three) offer an alternative way to purchase Microsoft software (see chart for details). There are two additional packages for more specialised needs:

  • Front-line package: this is a Public Sector package for users who are only using their computer for a specific business application and who do not require access to the full Microsoft Office productivity suite.
  • Core package (e.g. ancillary workers): PSA09 offers public sector organisations the flexibility to provide access to Microsoft software to users who do not require regular access to computing resources as part of their job. Typically, this is ancillary workers such as drivers, refuse collectors, gardeners, and care assistants. Under PSA09, public sector organisations can provide these users with a lower cost licence to enable access to applications such as self-service HR.

Buying Solutions consulted widely across the public sector before assembling these solutions to meet business requirements. The Public Sector packages also see the introduction of server licensing options embedded into these desktop packages for e-mail, collaboration, unified communications and SQL to aid licence simplification. Public sector organisations can step up or indeed downsize beween different Public Sector packages if reorganisation requires a change in their use of Microsoft software.

Under PSA09, customers can also continue to choose Microsoft Desktop packages, or choose new Public Sector packages (see chart below), for their Enterprise Agreement (EA).
